Step-By-Step How To Clean an Electric Kettle

These days a lot of people are off coffee or trying to reduce their caffeine intake. They’ll have  that one coffee in the morning and after that it’s tea for the rest of the day. The best way to boil water for your tea it is to use an electric tea kettle, far superior than boiling it in the microwave! Tea kettles can work really fast.

But after months of use, electric kettles can build up some mineral deposits from the water. It’s important to take the time to clean it properly. However, you shouldn’t use products that aren’t not food-safe. It may damage your kettle! Here’s how to clean an electric kettle using safe products.

Cleaning An Electric Kettle

What You’ll Need

  • Distilled white vinegar
  • Water
  • Scrubby brush (like a bottle brush)
  • Microfiber cloth

Step by Step

1- Prepare the solution: Combine equal parts water and white vinegar in a cup.

2- Pour it into the kettle: Pour the water/vinegar solution into the kettle. You may want to skip step one and pour the vinegar and water directly into the kettle, that’s ok too! Just make sure you put equal amounts of water and vinegar.

3- Turn on the kettle: Turn the kettle on and let the mixture boil for a few seconds. Turn the kettle off, unplug it, and let it cool.

4-  Clean the outside of the kettle: Once the solution has cooled down, dip your microfiber cloth into the mixture and wipe the outside of the kettle.

5- Scrub the interior: Use the brush to give the interior a soft scrub. Make sure you scrub it thoroughly!

6- Rinse: Pour out the solution. Rinse a couple of times.

7- Run a plain water cycle: Boil a pot of water (just water!) once or twice and discard it. This will help remove any remaining vinegar odor or taste. Plus, the hot water is good for your drain!

8- Enjoy your clean kettle!
